The 2019 Hollywood Fringe Festival Encore! Producers’ Award-winner and Best International Play Award-nominee What I Never Told You, will play one Encore performance on Friday, July 12, at 10pm in the Dorie Theatre at The Complex. Under the direction of Rita Cofield, the cast features (in alphabetical order) Amy Argyle, Hays McEachern, Liliana Montenegro, and Mike Tarnofsky. Running time is 60 minutes.
“[This] elegantly, simply, and beautifully-acted piece [is] well worth seeing. This tender depiction of a relationship — its charms and its flaws — urges us to take a look at those we hold dear in our own lives,” said Nikki Muller, Fringe Review UK.
Alysha and Nick have been together for seven years, never married, and have no children. Late one night, they begin discussing their relationship. Arguing over things all couples can relate to, laughing at old memories, sharing secrets, insecurities, and honest thoughts of how their life could be, they are ultimately reminded how deep their love is. A knock on the door, however, brings the world crashing down around them.
The best part of this is the acting. While all the actors are great, Amy Argyle is breath-taking, heartbreaking and devastating.
I also appreciated some of the more unconventional aspects of the story-telling, which directly engaged the audience.
A truly beautiful piece of theatre.
While I loved the story, I felt that the twist in it was set up to be that - a twist. I can't say more without spoiling it, but I felt like I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't figured out what the twist would be in the first few minutes of the play.
But maybe we are supposed to know and I misinterpreted that, but either way it made me antsy - wondering when Alysha (the character) would catch on to what seemed obvious.
But overall, What I Never Told You is a deeply moving story of love - and what it means to hold on and to let go.
Honestly I loved this play, it was one of the best I have seen. I laughed and cried... it was very moving and the acting was fantastic. I really felt the love and passion between the two main characters and it made me think about all the things I should say to people before I don’t get the chance to. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.
What I Never Told You uses a highly effective tear-jerking formula for sure, but it doesn’t cover up uninspired dialogue, an unnecessary character and repetitive movement.
This was not an easy one to sit through, and I mean that as a compliment. The emotions are raw and relatable and will hit you in the feels. The cast is superb with Amy Argyle being a particular stand out. She hits all the right notes with her character’s struggle and she absolutely breaks your heart. This is worth your time and dime. It's a heartbreaking show with great performances.

You know a show is powerful when you are still thinking about it several days later and that was the case for me with this one. This is such a moving story and Amy Argyle led the cast with an incredibly beautiful performance. The life she breathed into every moment that her character was onstage was captivating to watch.
