Actor and comedian Tobin Mitnick sheds light on three con men that are using their style-savvy to manipulate a generation of young Americans through the unregulated Wild West that is the Internet. In its world premiere, one-man comedy TOBINCON dives into the grotesque and hilarious world of online grifters—the Body Prophet, the Rhetorical Bad Boy, and the Compassionologist—with sketch and stand-up, in order to show us that the game may have changed, but the players are all still here. But Mitnick also answers a lingering question: When you spend so much time rubbing shoulders with these types, will it rub off on you? In other words, can you con yourself? Only TOBINCON has the answers!

Reviews
Tobin Mitnick is more than meets the eye. He’s super cute and devilishly charming, but all that takes a backseat to his book-smart brilliance and his raw, self-reflective honesty. The writing is layered, clever, personal, and manages to tie into both universal themes and contemporary topics. Effortless direction by Amanda Stoffel Mitnick suits every beat change and supports every punchline.

The Tobincon you walk into is not the same Tobincon you exit - and the shift of expectation, shift of tone, and shift of journey will not just surprise and delight you, but will leave you wondering how you ever sat through shows that play only on surface themes and tropes. Tobin Mitnick is a performer, a narrator, and an actor of incredible depth and warmth, and this strikingly personal performance feels like just the beginning of what will inevitably be a long, fruitful career (seriously, get this guy on TV and film ASAP). It's hilarious, for sure - but hilarious alone doesn't describe it, and Mitnick has found a way to subvert the expectations of a one-man show into a decisively special experience. Tobincon is masterful and shows the range of a performer whose gifts are ready to be viewed by the world.

What initially seems to be a hilarious comedy show incisively taking down familiar internet con artists of YouTube, Twitter, and beyond, morphs into something far more personal and surprising. Mitnick is brilliantly compelling as he entertainingly takes on outlandish characters, and movingly shares his own very human truth.

This show needs to experienced firsthand. What I can say, is that watching this show evolve before me on stage, was one of the most enjoyable theatre experience in recent memory.
I applaud the terrific direction by Amanda Stoffel Mitnick who leads Mitnick through the peaks and valleys of the show.
I implore you, add Tobincon to your list if you haven't already, come prepared to laugh, and come ready to be conned but maybe not in the way you expect to be.
Without a doubt, one of my favorite shows of Hollywood Fringe 2019
