t’s the call no one wants to get and puts you in a club you never want to be part of. Over the course of his life, Michael J. Gonzales answered several calls in his life, mostly metaphorical and with a musical bent. But that one call, at age 50, changed everything. He was holding on to the proverbial thread. But was it strong enough to take him through this nightmare? The Ivory Thread is a story of a musician’s journey into acting after personal tragedy.

An affable storyteller shares excerpts from a life dedicated to the arts, with some stunning piano self-accompaniment.

Michael J. Gonzales is a genuinely likable storyteller, and sincerity and humor permeate every moment of his autobiography. In sharing his (many) accomplishments he’s neither arrogant nor self-deprecating, but straightforward and honest. He’s likewise open in sharing his foibles, often with generous helpings of humor. You can’t help but get swept up in his moments of giddy enthusiasm, or sympathize with his darker turns.

The musical self-accompaniment helps enrich the story and gives us a sense of why Gonzales’ musical career was so successful. The style varies but often centers around a flavor of blues enriched with jazz harmonies. I loved it.

Entertaining, delightful and compelling, The Ivory Thread is a treat to the senses! I loved how Michael uses the ivory keys as a thread throughout the show. What a great show title! Masterful timing on the dialogue while playing the keys. Michael is charming in his delivery and a whiz on the keys. He’s a talented actor & musician with a wonderful uplifting story not to be missed. I was thoroughly entertained and wanted the show to go on!
