STEEL MAGNOLIAS: January 10 – February 16
Robert Harling
How do you solve a problem like that child Shelby?! You don’t. A tender, funny, sad, funny play about the family tug of war between mother (M’lynn) and daughter (Shelby). And their friends who all come to the same beauty parlor where life and its issues get discussed and dissected in a very Southern and ladylike way. A perennial favorite of the American stage! Theatre Palisades latest production is “Steel Magnolias”. A poignant, humorous, and touching story by Robert Harling. Opening Friday January 10, through Sunday February 16, 2020 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 P.M. and Sundays at 2:00 P.M. at the Pierson Playhouse located at 941 Temescal Canyon Dr. (just south of Sunset Blvd.) Pacific Palisades, CA 90272.
The production is directed by Brandon Ferruccio and produced by Sherman Wayne and Martha Hunter with rights secured from Dramatists Play Service, Inc. Featured in the cast are, in alphabetical order Maria O’Connor (M’lynn), Sherry Coon (Ouiser), Jessica Hogan (Annelle),
Grace O’Neill (Shelby), Catherine Rahm (Clairee), Courtney Shaffer, (Truvy).

The cast of six players that appear in this program live up to their characteristics that make this stage work a real charmer! They all speak their verbiage in southern-style dialogue with touches of sweet charm and hints of sassiness. This said wordiness, as well as what they wear on their persons and on their heads add to the flavor of this production. Brandon Ferruccio directs this show that lever loses any of its momentum, keeping its creative style set in place!

The six incredibly talented women in the Theatre Palisades production bring these characters and their unique personalities fully to life moment by moment, each fully engaged with bits of action every second they are onstage. Thanks to director Brandon Ferruccio's expert fast pacing, and Sherman Wayne's cleverly authentic multi-level set, you will feel you are not just watching a play but are a fly on the wall in Truvy's small town Louisiana beauty parlor where social veneers are set aside and honesty reigns as the women who regularly gather there share their lives, loves, and heartache - as well as all the town gossip! Together they revel in one another's joys and face life's bitterness with extraordinary mettle that suits the metaphor in the play's title.
