Small Island Big Song celebrates 5,000 years of Pacific Islander culture. The project is a collective of indigenous musicians who share an ancient seafaring ancestry across the islands of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. The live concert brings many of these musicians to the stage, in an experience of shared musical traditions and contemporary collaborations. It is an exuberant celebration combining oceanic grooves, soulful island ballads, spoken word and images of the artist’s homelands, while also drawing attention to environmental challenges and the fate of many island nations affected by rising seas.
