Hailed as one of the greatest bad movies in the annals of film history, the 1953 cult sci-fi classic, “Robot Monster” is a beloved fan favorite for its complete absurdity, hammy acting, charming naiveté and – most of all – for its famously tortured space gorilla.

But more than just an infamously “bad movie,” the film has a charming and unpretentious sincerity that's so appealing in our frenetic age

With 16 original songs, the musical includes everything current and new fans demand from a show about a space gorilla sent to earth to destroy the human race. Will he succeed? Find out this June at the Sacred Fools Mainstage!

Unless you are a huge fan of campy, bad films and their musical adaptations, you should probably just Skip it.

Everyone in the cast had their time to shine and show their vocal talents (even the Robot Monster!) The songs were funny and ridiculous. If you like musicals based on bad movies, definitely go and check this show out!

There are a few too many musical numbers, and the show hews too closely to the original film's moldy plot when it has such an opportunity for higher camp.

Wanna make a musical about a terrible movie? Make a GOOD parody!

GUESS WHAT THIS SHOW FORGOT TO DO!

The music: Bad. Couldn't remember a single song two hours later. NOT A GOOD SIGN.

The acting: Flat. Especially the younger scientist. Guy tried to chew the scenery, ended up just coming across as begging for attention like a desperate teenager.

The pacing: Slow. SUPER SLOW. I saw the preview and it ran like 15 minutes long. FRINGE. Get your timing right.

There was a song that was just one long fart joke. NO joke.

There was a song that had choreography that was just masturbation gestures. NO joke.

Avoid this. NO JOKE.

As the nerdiest kid this side of the Rockies, I lived for the cheesy Sci-Fi that oozed out of the fifties like the blob outa a whiffle ball: "It Came from Outer Space," "This Island Earth," "The Crawling Eye." "Robot Monster," a musical, at this year's Fringe, based on this childhood rapture, seemed a sure-fire contender.

So perhaps you need to be a Robot Monster fan to truly appreciate what was done here. In other words, YMMV. But for someone who had never seen the movie, and was going based on experience with other campy SF movies turned into good small musicals, I was expecting much much more. [...] If you are familiar with the original movie and know what you're getting, you'll likely enjoy this. Anyone else — your mileage may vary drastically.
