Amazing performance of “Our Town”. The Cast was great! We saw a Sunday Matinee....it was a perfect way to spend the afternoon.
I was lucky enough to see a dress rehearsal of Our Town. It far exceeded my expectations. The Stage Manager, who is so important to the quality of the show, was excellent in every way. The other actors made me laugh and cry. I liked their subdued costumes and the lighting. Please go to see this excellent show; you won't be sorry!
It's thrilling to be here at "Our Town" with Kentwood Players! This production is a luminous portrait of Americana in the 1900's. From within a dark stage figures emerge into the golden, amber, blue and green lights, each character coming alive on cue from the Stage Manager, and bursting with their stories. Yes, those are live sounds: the clippity-clop of horses, the chimes, the simple hymn from the choir; and later on, the sounds of pouring rain. Meet vivacious Emily and her next door neighbor, George, and discover how he wins her heart. We grow to care about each one of the 14 characters, as the story becomes more poignant in Acts 2 and 3. The play has indeed a message, and I have to stay till the end to get it. Kudos to director Stanley Brown, producer/costume designer Kathy Dershimer and their talented cast for honoring this timeless script. You engaged my senses and touched my heart. "Look up at the sky; see the stars; It's clearing up." I want to see this play again. That's not just because my husband, Eddie Ed, is a character in the show. I love it that he's part of the story. Are you tired of these politically fretful times? Come back to a simpler time. Refresh your soul, rub elbows and put your hands together with your neighbors in Westchester. Enjoy a timeless classic in the tradition of great theater at a reasonable price. "Our Town" runs from January 11 through February 16.
