NINE WINNING ONE-ACTS
Reviews
The plays are staged efficiently with quick turn-overs in the simple black space (set design by Chris Winfield; lights by J. Kent Inasy; sound by Steve Shaw). The directors, of varying ability, have focused on the acting.

I was impressed with the variety and quality of the story lines, actors, sets, and the emotional impact of the plays. The range of subjects, from future fantasy to mystery to intrigue to comedy, was wide, the pace was steady, and the roller-coaster of emotions evoked by the various presentations was nonstop, thanks to expert staging and swift, seamless transitioning from one play to the next. All of the plays were well-written and acted and earned their “winner” badge when presented on stage.

In planning one-act festivals, companies generally choose either to ask playwrights to create works inspired by a particular theme or open their submissions to any play that fits their time parameters. In curating their second one-act festival, Nine Winning One-Acts, The Group Rep chose the latter, resulting in an eclectic array of pieces with far-reaching themes.

Nine Winning One-Acts offers an entertaining introduction to a group of writers who are mostly unfamiliar. Intelligent writing, authentic performances harnessed by skilled directors produces a winning score for this production.

Every single actor is brilliant of course, I would expect nothing less from GRT, but I have to say the material really is exceptionally good.
