Jessie’s Messy Mind was created by artist, activist and mother, Jessie Knowles. It brings the audience inside the world of her experiences with bipolar and schizophrenia using authentic life stories, original music, humor and hope. You’ll follow Jessie as she searches for the truth about herself using the characters that makes up her inner experience, watch as Jessie goes through the rise and fall of hypo-manic love, listen as Jessie communicates with the voices in her head, and learn what really happens as she tries to express the thought process of an actual delusional state. With wild humor and enduring positivity, Jessie opens the door to a part of herself that most people still keep hidden. Jessie has struggled with the way our culture addresses and talks about mental health. She hopes that Jessie’s Messy Mind encourages people to change the way they look at their own journey and begin to talk about mental health in a new way.

Jessie Knowles is transparent and lays her soul bare in this stirring production that is filled with original music and brilliant storytelling that shows what it’s like to be involved in a manic episode. I felt like I was reliving the drama of my first marriage, as my ex-wife suffers from the same illness. As Jessie says in her closing remarks, “This show does not have an ending because I’m still living with it every day.” Three cheers for her bravery in sharing her life with us. It is no mistake that this show was a Pick of the Fringe.
