I try to find a few unusual things to do to celebrate Halloween this season. I am so glad I chose this performance of Edgar Allen Poe this year. Duffy Hudson created a really unique and powerful performance. I loved watching him get into character, tell the story of what drew him to Poe, and his discussion of "voluntary suspension of disbelief". It all made me so much more present in what was happening and appreciate even more what I was about to see. I hadn't read Poe in a long time, and hearing his readings was magic. I was fascinated with Poe all over again. Even more so with the personal accounts that Poe shared, which made the stories and poems both horrifying and heartbreaking at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and the folks at FON Productions were so warm and welcoming. It was a brilliant and intimate show. Very well done!
What I enjoyed most about watching Edgar Allan Poe was meeting Duffy before he turns to Edgar onstage. There was something fresh about meeting the actor before his transformation into the greatest storyteller that ever was. A solid performance that deserves an encore... Here’s an interview Duffy Hudson did for Italo’s Blog Talk Radio
Force of Nature Productions invites you for an evening filled with masterful acting and a dramatic reintroduction to an author you only thought you knew helmed by Duffy Hudson.
I took my daughter to the show because of her love of all things literary, we both were inspired and awe-struck by the captivating performance of Duffy Hudson. We highly recommend this performance to anyone who appreciates Edgar Allen Poe. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed this performance and would gladly see it again!
Magnificent Performance by Duffy Hudson. I’ve seen his show numerous times and each time find myself totally lost in the story and web of the character. Reality melts away and you really believe Edgar Allan Poe is standing there in front of you. And each time I have a renewed since of awe for his works.
I never knew a one man show could be so captivating, dramatic, and colorful! Duffy Hudson becomes Edgar Allen Poe on stage and recited some of his greatest works with so much emotion it fills the room!
So fascinating was Hudson's delivery of not only the words but the all-encompassing emotions expressed that I found myself getting lost in the spirit of wonder and imagination Poe's words bring to my soul. And even though he has performed the show thousands of times, I truly believe each time he shares them with an audience is just as exciting for him as the first time he heard his father read it to him.
Usually part of the Actor’s mantra is to never break the fourth wall unless the script or the director calls for some mugging for the audience. But in a courageous twist Duffy Hudson weaves the story of his childhood into the prelude of this one man show as the actor self-transforms into the living legend Edgar Allen Poe. Now a living stage presence, Poe begins reciting his own story-his loves and heartbreaks and the works by which the author attempted to exorcise his demons. And we are slowly transformed from spectators into his confessors—finally sharing in a devastating recital of “The Raven” that left this audience stunned yet on it’s feet. You do NOT want to miss this experience. I will be seeing it again.
It was a powerful show, and lightning fast: Barely an hour long, with a ripping pace and tons of energy...Hudson's hard work and strong talent were acknowledged at the very end of the performance.
Edgar Allan Poe is an engaging one-man show from actor Duffy Hudson, filled with horror, tragedy, and morbid romanticism, expressed through autobiographical details and readings of “The Tell Tale Heart,” “Annabelle Lee,” and “The Raven”.
As a fan of Edgar Allen Poe from a very young age, I was delighted to see three of his most famous works come to life through the exquisitely expressive Duffy Hudson. Hudson expertly balances his own connection to the works of Poe in a fun out-of-character introduction, Poe's brief telling of his life story, and Poe's recreation of his works. Hudson creates a version of Poe that is both entertaining and melancholy, much like the characters Poe created. With a sparse set only used for the introduction, attention is appropriately focused on the perfect showman; Hudson breathes life into the famous author's tales and leaves the audience wanting more.
Excellent one-man show! Unique and innovative. I enjoyed how the actor got into character in front of the audience. I stayed captivated throughout the play, a tough feat for a single actor with no one else to interact with. And a great tribute to Poe!
A mesmerizing one-man performance by Mr. Duffy Hudson as Edgar Allan Poe. A great tribute to the master himself. Kudos Force of Nature Productions; great stuff.
