Don't Hug Me Productions presents the world premiere musical comedy Don't Hug Me, We're Family, book and lyrics by Phil Olson, music by Paul Olson, directed by Doug Engalla, with choreography by Michele Bernath. The host of a radio show devoted entirely to ice fishing loses his sole sponsor while his wife, a popular host of a book show, has numerous sponsors, putting the couple at odds. Issues escalate and are compounded when two fish-out-of-water Brooklyn Italians come to the rural Minnesota town, buy the radio station and a hotel, and turn everything on its ear.
DON'T HUG ME, WE'RE FAMILY
Reviews
They are an energetic, accomplished bunch, whose precision and comedic subtleties underlie the exuberance.

Directed with FAST PACED FRIVOLITY by Doug Engalla, and PLAYFULLY choreographed by Michele Bernath, the laughs are non-stop and the storyline is BONKERS! The cleverly cluttered set design (by Chris Winfield) is a joy to behold, and an onstage jukebox cleverly provides the orchestration. It's a musical laugh-fest, featuring a zany cast of seven actors, 14 original songs and 12 radio jingles. A TON OF FUN!

The set design is spectacular and each and every actor carries his or her role superbly. But adding even more to the theatrical mix this show is a musical with 14 original songs...This is a true theatrical gem well worth your time and modest cost.

The exceptionally talented cast is directed by Doug Engalla. Enjoy a theater experience loaded with talent, comedy, and a great deal of fun.

The jokes are rundown and groan-worthy at times but the cast truly gives their hearts and souls in delivering them that you can't help but laugh. They play off each other very well and seem to be having a lot of fun. Their Minnesota accents are so spot on, you expect Marge Gunderson and other inhabitants of Fargo to show up at any moment.

Phil Olson has created a number of plays from the “Don't Hug Me” series, most (if not all) had made its first appearance in the Los Angeles region, thousands of miles away from the land of 10,000 lakes! This one is no exception! Whatever the case, DON'T HUG ME, WE'RE FAMILY is the funniest play about the folks from the frozen north this side of Anoka County! This writer can hardly wait until the next entry from this collection makes its mark!

I found DON'T HUG ME, WE'RE FAMILY to be a good laugh, a good time and in no way serious. If you are looking for a way to de-stress after a long Friday at work or are looking for a fun weekend nighttime activity, by all means attend a performance of this show. Despite a few mishaps, the point of this show is to bring joy and happiness to the audience, and on opening night, it did exactly that.

Always funny, always great, always wonderful, and always thoroughly enjoyable. Now is the time to have some fun and visit Bunyan Bay once more. I love the DON'T HUG ME series, and each and every one brings a smile to my face. LOVED IT!!! I'm looking forward to the next one. Enjoy!!!!!!!!
