LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – AmerIcon Monroe, in conjunction with Robo & Bash Productions and Cryptic Entertainment, proudly presents the timeless comedy, Bus Stop, by William Inge. The play, directed by Vanessa Waters, is taking place at the Avery Schreiber Playhouse in North Hollywood. The play opens February 8, 2019, and will run Friday through Sunday for three weekends. Showtime on Fridays and Saturdays is at 8pm, Sundays at 3pm. The play will close February 24, 2019. “Somehow deep inside of me I got a funny feeling I’m gonna end up in Montana …” Fateful words delivered by Cherie as she deals with the belligerent advances of Bo, a headstrong, bull-headed 21 year-old cowboy. They are but two of the passengers on a bus that has stopped and remained at the diner due to a severe mid-Western snowstorm. Grace, proprietor of the diner, and Carla, the bus driver, at last find time to develop a potential romance of their own. Dr. Lyman, a middle-aged scholar, comes to terms with himself; while Elma, who works in the cafe, also gets her first taste of romance. Bo’s guardian and defacto father, Virgil, along with the local sheriff, Will Masters, provide the voices of reason. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Bus Stop showcases the complexity of relationships and the true price of love. The stellar cast is headlined by Jessica “Sugar” Kiper, of Survivor fame. Also to note: with permission from the Inge Estate, the role of the ‘Carl’ has been changed to ‘Carla’. The ensemble also includes Shelly Snellman, Mike Bash, John Freeman, Katy Jacoby, Joe Dalo, Jeff Newman & Ivy Kahn. The set has been designed by R. Benjamin Warren, with light & sound designed by Cara Vilencia & Kyle Schriver. Bus Stop originally opened on March 2, 1955 and closed on April 21, 1956, running for a total of 478 performances. The play was nominated for four Tony Awards in 1956: Best Play, Best Featured Actress in a Play, Best Scenic Design and Best Director. Though written more than a half century ago, Inge’s themes have proven to withstand the test of time, as the innate desire to love and be loved will always be a dominant aspect of human nature.
