In this dynamic, funny and deeply truthful performance, actor, playwright and storyteller Michael Washington Brown shatters stereotypes, playing out the life stories of four men from around the world (the U.S., England, Jamaica and Africa), each of whom is black — but each of whom has a very different idea about what that means. “Pulls no punches… shocking, funny and engaging… highly recommended” — Chicago Sun Times. Sundays at 7 p.m. from Sept. 9 – Oct. 14; Zephyr Theatre, 7456 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90046; $25;(800) 838-3006; blackonemanshow.brownpapertickets.com/
“BLACK!”
Reviews
This ninety minute show will inspire all who see it. This ninety minute show will inspire all who see it. This ninety minute show will inspire all who see it.

More than just character studies, Brown's exploration of the word ‘black' examines race from a global perspective.

But this is not an uncomfortable “Black attack” - in fact, it's quite entertaining, as well as enlightening. Along with Rogue Machine's American Saga Gunshot Medley: Part 1, which opened the same weekend at The Met, Black! makes a valuable addition to our social discourse through theatre at a time when we - people of all ethnicities - really need it.

His hope for the future calls to mind a hope I always feel when watching Star Trek, that of a future in which race or ethnicity, although honored, is irrelevant to the important work at hand.
Mr. Brown's show filled me with hope. It is a joy to experience. Go! See for yourselves.

Brown's belief in the importance of this story, this message, makes him engaging to watch, and he is met with a receptive audience, willing to connect with and learn from him.
For audience members of all races and colors, this show educates, inspires, and illuminates new perspectives on the black experience. - RECOMMENDED

I recommend this ninety minutes play as a must see for all people. In these days of political uncertainty in our country, this play couldn't have come at a better time.. I give this well done and superbly acted solo play two thumbs up. You will find it to be truthful, shocking, and at times extremely funny.
