American Stranger is the story of three siblings, two of whom are learning to understand the third who is transitioning from their brother to their sister, now known as Mary. Rejection and intolerance plagues Mary— from society and from her parents who have disowned her. However, it is the loss of her beloved girlfriend, Dionne, that haunts her the most.
After Mary is taken in by her sisters in Hollywood, Brooke and Janet, she tries to pursue her artistic aspirations by selling her paintings on the streets. There, she befriends a homeless man named Jake and a transgender woman named Shannon. The streets of Hollywood become their backdrop as Mary slowly begins to understand more about herself and her new world. However, one night she is confronted by an intolerant and violent passersby. America’s growing cultural divide has made Mary a stranger in her own country.
American Stranger features the acoustic versions of the songs of Laura Espinoza & Lunden Reign.

There are some really awesome moments in this play. The cast, composer, writer, musicians and crew are absolutely dedicated to the chronical and cause. But American Stranger needs work.

WOW!! I really enjoyed this musical so much it left me wanting for more! What I loved the most is the original score and songs by Laura Espinoza. The songs should have been Nominated to best Original Songs by Hollywood Fringe. The acting and singing by all actors were outstanding. I will certainly follow this production expansion and growth and get as much as I can of this refreshing and authentic storyline with a deep and meaningful message. THANK YOU and best of wishes.

American Stranger is a beautiful written show and is very poignant for the current state of affairs for Transgender women in the U.S. Real life stories such as this one are crucial to be told because it shows the challenges families face in embracing change and the struggles many Transgender women experience daily to accept themselves and find their way in the world. The role of Mary illustrates the complexities very well and gives a voice to the many in our community whose lives are tragically taken from us far too soon. Thank you for all who birthed this story and made this happen. As a professional who works in our community I meet many men and women who have very similar stories like Mary’s and it is heartbreaking.

This was a wonderful musical. A beautiful story about a transgender fining her place in life and family. Tragically cut short. The acting, songs, musical instruments complimented the entire show. I hope the message is heard and opens the hearts to allow anyone to be their authentic self. Fantastic!

Truly a story that choked me up a few times. Only made more powerful by the script, the actors and the music. A must see for anyone who us or wants to get a glimpse at being trans.

Everyone involved did a fantastic job putting this show together. The music was great, the acting was great and the story tugs at your heartstrings. I also very much appreciated that they cast actual transgender people for the characters who are also trans.

This was a sweet story with a emotional gut punch at the end. The music was excellently orchestrated and perfectly minimalistic, the vocals were strong and Mindy Milburn’s vocals were particularly well delivered and projected. Delia Rawdon played the part of Mary like it could have been her own life story. Scooby Ducati shines in every scene he’s seen in. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable show!

American Stranger the Musical by Laura Espinosa is a piece for our times. A movement in musical genius, backed by a real life convergence of words Into music. A journey, an epic voyage in one persons life that open’s a Window into the human soul.
Miranda’s piano and vocals feel like a warm velvet blanket hugging a 12 string guitar played live, drenching you in emotional truths throughout the night.
A honest opportunity to walk in someone else’s shoes in 57 minutes. Mindy Milburn graced us with an inviting voice full of kind, endearing harmonies and soul felt melodies that told a story of one woman... all women transitioning into who they truly are, a sister, a seeker, a human being.

What a beautiful gift this musical is! The writer had to know what a powerful message this would be, much needed yesterday, today, and tomorrow. No spoilers here, just go see it and feel the love, confusion of being new in LA, and the message being sung beautifully by Delia Rawdon, Mindy Milburn, Miranda Miller with a great cast including Jacklyn Robinson, Scooby Ducati, Bill Melrose, and Sabrina Richmond. The writer, composer and guitarist Laura Espinoza has presented a musical that you cannot forget, ever...
