Starring MARY BRIDGET DAVIES, Broadway’s original “Janis” in her TONY AWARD-NOMINATED performance. Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, Janis Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the queen of rock & roll. The unmistakable voice, filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort, made her a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock.  Fueled by such unforgettable songs as “Me and Bobby McGee,” “Piece of My Heart,” “Mercedes Benz,” “Cry Baby” and “Summertime” plus a remarkable cast headed by the show’s original Broadway star, Mary Bridget Davies, A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN is a musical journey celebrating Janis and her biggest musical influences—icons like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Odetta, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith, who inspired one of rock & roll’s greatest legends.

Like a comet that burns far too brightly to last, Janis Joplin exploded onto the music scene in 1967 and, almost overnight, became the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll. Davies carries on and mimics the unmistakable raspy voice filled with raw emotion and tinged with Southern Comfort to a tee, her stage presence making it easy to see what made Joplin a must-see headliner from Monterey to Woodstock and beyond even to this day, so many years after her too-soon passing at the age of 27. After listening to Davies' sharing of Janis' life, it is easy to think the rock legend died from not only from drugs and alcohol but from her lonely co-dependent longing for a man to share her life, equaling her love of the spotlight and adoration received from a live audience, which she could never find.

Randy Johnson's A Night with Janis Joplin turns the plush La Mirada Theater into a rocking 1960's rave...The show is beautifully designed -- rear-projections are used to set psychedelic moods and share family photos.

Janis up in rock-and-roll heaven might have plenty more secrets to tell, but something tells me she's joining in on the La Mirada hurrahs.

...for those unfamiliar with the legacy of Joplin, A Night With Janis Joplin will serve a primer to place in rock'n roll history. For those who are fans of Joplin, this show — which features some of the singer's most memorable music, including "Cry Baby," "Piece of My Heart," "Me and Bobby McGee," and "Mercedes Benz"— will be an uneven blast to the past. Still, the show reminds us, as St. Vincent Millay's poem does, Janis Joplin's candle burned at both ends; but it gave a lovely light!

A Night With Janis Joplin is loud, vigorous, and colorful! If you walk in as a conscientious fan, I have no doubt you'll leave besotted.
